Most buildings in the town of Friday Harbor’s core are 19th century and early 20th structures whose design reflects the San Juan Islands’ nautical heritage. By contrast, the San Juan Islands Museum of Art is an avant-garde structure to display cutting edge artworks.
Its exhibits include multiple forms of visual arts including photography, painting, and sculpture.This small museum features 8-10 exhibits on an annual basis with a focus on local and global artists. Visitors can enjoy docent led tours of exhibitions by request, school groups are offered field trips, and have a picnic in the adjacent open field next door to the art museum.
