Saltpetre Vats (Booth’s)

Wooden boxes filled with dirt along the side of the trail.
In addition to the Rotunda, Booth's Amphitheater served as a processing site for saltpetre.

Quick Facts

Scenic View/Photo Spot

In this location, there are seven leeching vats and other pieces of dirt processing works. They are part of the original operation preserved by the constant cave environment. Many individual pieces have been moved through the years for reasons such as: creating seating for church services, bonfires to keep visitors warm and various trail projects while privately owned.
