Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The Roosevelt's garden was located on three acres north and west of what is now the parking lot. The family grew vegetables, such as potatoes, beans, lettuce and carrots, as well as fruits such as berries, grapes, peaches, and plums. In addition to food for the table, Mrs. Roosevelt kept a cutting garden for decorative flowers to adorn the Roosevelt home. The structure near the the present-day road was the gardener's shed, where gardener Alfred Davis lived and worked tending to the fruits and vegetables while keeping the Roosevelt children from trampling the flowers and eating too many berries.
