Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The farm implements in the Wagon Shed reflect the shift away from the small farms and the displacement of thousands of farm workers. With the increased mechanization of farming, a large work force was no longer needed. Sharecroppers and tenant farmers left the farms to seek opportunity in cities. The Great Migration, an exodus of approximately six million African Americans out of the rural South and into the urban Northeast, Midwest, and West ocurred from around 1910 to 1970.
