Route 66 was a major highway from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California. It was officially designated in 1926 and decommissioned in 1985. Petrified Forest National Park is the only national park that contains a segment of Route 66. Several spots along the old roadbed mark the presence of previous private establishments including the Lion Farm and the Painted Desert Tower. In 2006 the park  established an outdoor exhibit at the junction of Route 66 and the main park road seen in this old picture. Telephone poles and the raised roadbed mark the final alignment. The 1932 Studebaker was added later.
