The rostrum at Antietam National Cemetery on Memorial Day

NPS Antietam/BBaracz

The rostrum, constructed in 1879, is the 'stage' for all special programs and events at the national cemetery. It was designed by Gen. Montgomery Meigs and follows the design plan of rostrums guests will find at all national cemeteries. The rostrum at Antietam is unique in that it is one of the few remaining that still have a turf speakers platform. This area is the focal point for honored guests, dignitaries, and other presenters during the annual Memorial Day Commemoration.
