Rodeo Lagoon and Climate Change
Rodeo Lagoon provides a home for endangered tidewater goby fish and threatened California red-legged frogs. Tidewater gobies live in the brackish water of the lagoon, while the red-legged frogs live in the freshwater pond just east of the lagoon.
As sea-level rises due to climate change, ocean water will wash into the lagoon more frequently and possibly even breach the barrier to the pond. Changes in water temperature, salinity and turbulence may eliminate these fragile species from the area. Park scientists are monitoring the populations of these critical species.
