After departing from Sycamore Shoals, the Patriot militia under Sevier, Shelby, Campbell, and McDowell continued their climb up and over the Appalachian Mountains. They used the easiest trails they could, following rivers and streams. Hopefully they march would be rapid enough to surprise Patrick Ferguson and his Loyalist army.
This section is 0.2 miles long. It is a grassy trail following the Doe RIver. Roan Mountain Community Park features a parking area, restroom facilities, and recreational opportunities. This is also the recommended parking area to road-walk and see the Shelving Rock.
