Reuben Tarte County Park is one of the very few places on island where you can publicly access the northern shoreline of San Juan Island. This small park features tidepools, rocky beaches, and tranquil shores. It is an excellent place for a picnic, kayaking, or exploring the marine life our island is famous for.  From the top of a bluff in the park you can look out at Saturna, Flattop, Waldron, Sucia and Orcas Islands. It has extremely limited parking, which is available at the top of a steep drive down to the beach, which can be used for dropping off visitors prior to parking.

Reuben Tarte is named after a pivotal figure in our island’s history. Reuben Tarte was a wealthy Seattleite who purchased the Roche Harbor Lime Cement Company in 1956. Under his guidance, the lime mining company's assets were transformed into a popular resort which now sees thousands of visitors a year. Today, visitors to Reuben Tarte County Park can enjoy the same coastline which enchanted its namesake.
