The front room, where the information office now is, served as the storage facility from 1765 to 1796 for the highly flammable and explosive black powder. It powered the use of cannon and muskets for the protection of the fort's interests and the oppression of those whom were denied freedom.

Later it became a detention cell, then a food storage area, and lastly a night patrolman's guard room. Many rooms here at the fort served many different uses throughout its nearly 300 year history. As you continue to explore, imagine the various uses the fort could have held. Field artillery was stored in the side room where the exhibit and television are now.
