Once a productive shaft for Quincy, the #4 plunged thousands of feet into the ground. The house itself was a 50-foot tall wooden building with a wire running southeast to the engine house. Today all that remains is the poor-rock foundation of the shafthouse. The building that used to cover the shaft allowed for some initial sorting of the ore coming from underground.
