The battle of Queenston Heights was fought on October 12, 1812. Queenston Heights was recognized early on as sacred ground, a monument to Sir Isaac Brock is constructed here as this was the site he ultimately lost his life. There is also a monument to Laura Secord there. It was here than an American invasion was a failure. This battle was instrumental in increasing public opinion at the time of one against the Americans and increasing the consciousness of the Canadian people at the onset of the War of 1812.
