Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

Beneath the trees and leaves in Prince William Forest Park is a mine that once employed 250 people from this area in the early 1900s. After it was closed in 1919, many of the old buildings fell into disrepair and some of the lumber was used by the Civilian Conservation Corps to build the cabin camps in the 1930s. Today, foundations of some mine buildings and the capped mine shafts are remnants of the bygone era of the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine operation. Please do not climb on any of the foundations for both your safety and the protection of these historic resources.
