Welcome to the Pinto Basin. This breathtaking landscape was once characterized by lush lakes, swamps, and verdant grasslands. Although it's drier now, it remains a thriving habitat for rare desert wildlife. Wildlife found here include sidewinder rattlesnake, the jackrabbit, and Mojave fringe-toed lizard.

For those interested in stargazing, the Pinto Basin is an ideal place in Joshua Tree. The Pinto Basin offers a remote location and exceptionally dark skies. If stargazing, stay awake and alert within 20 feet (6 meters) of your vehicle.
