Post Traders House Foundation at Fort Laramie built in 1863

NPS

Built in 1863, this foundation was once the home of the post trader. A civilian licensed by the US government to conduct business at the fort, to help supply the military with necessary products. The house was one of the most ornate at Fort Laramie. The post trader position changed several times at Fort Laramie, but the money for the position was always good, they made about $33,000 a year which is about a million a year in today’s money.
