Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The roads linking this landing southward to Corinth, Mississippi, was one of the reasons William T. Sherman selected this site to stage the Federal army in mid-March. Key to the battlefield, the failure of the Confederate army to seize or deny use of the landing permitted Buell's Army of the Ohio to reinforce Grant's bloodied army during the night of April 6-7.
