More than 6,600 American servicemembers lie at rest in the Gettysburg National Cemetery. Approximately half of those interred here are Union soldiers who died during the Battle of Gettysburg. There are also numerous Civil War veterans buried here, including Charles Parker. Parker is one of only two known African American Civil War veterans lying at rest in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
