Although it may look like a simple field, through time the Parade Ground has been the center of the immensely complex and diverse community that was Vancouver Barracks. Your journey through seven decades of history highlights just a few of the many people whose experiences make up the story of this place. From immigrant laundresses to Civil War generals to incarcerated Indigenous people, there is not just one story, but many. Through these many stories, we can better understand this special place and learn, from the past, about ourselves, our communities, and our future.   

This concludes the Parade Ground tour. To return to the Visitor Center, proceed south on the path between the barracks to McClellan Rd. Safely cross the street and take the sidewalk to connect with Park Road. Follow Park Road to the Visitor Center.

Accessible route: To return to the Visitor Center, retrace your route west along the sidewalk. Safely cross Fort Vancouver Way and follow the sidewalk to the traffic circle. Cross the road east to rejoin the sidewalk along E Evergreen Blvd and proceed east until you reach the Visitor Center.
