Imagine the beat of soldiers’ feet and the boom of firing cannons. Fort Foote represents the peak of Civil War fort construction and coastal defenses. Many of its buildings are gone, but there’s still plenty to do and see. Head left toward the entrance of the fort. Check out the concrete magazine, one of the few left from the Civil War era. But please stay off the walls for your safety and theirs. Head right to explore the grounds where soldiers once lived.
