Old Bayview Cemetery is the site of the oldest federal military cemetery in Texas.
The cemetery’s origin dates back to the U.S.-Mexican War.
In the opening stanzas of the war, General Zachary Taylor’s Army of Occupation established base camp in the Corpus Christi area.
It became evident early on the camp needed a formal burial ground and this site was chosen.
