Crossvine “Bignonia capreolata”
Crossvine runs up the tree next to the marker. The vine holds onto the tree trunks by tendrils. Its common name comes from the cross-shaped pith in the center of the stem. Trumpet-shaped flowers of this evergreen vine are dull red or salmon outside and yellow or red within. They brighten the forest in March and April, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds.
