The Reverend Nelson C. Nix (1865-1944) was a leader in the African American educational community Columbia and Orangeburg, SC during the later years of the Reconstruction Era. Nix attended Benedict College and Claflin University, and later became a professor at South Carolina State University. All three of these Historically Black Colleges and Universities are a part of the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network. 

Reverend Nix purchased this home on Amelia Street in Orangeburg, South Carolina at the end of the Reconstruction era. Today the home is a private residence, and is designated on both the National Register as part of the Treadwell Street District, as well as the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network.
