Mount Wright is south of Adams Inlet and east of Garforth Island in Muir Inlet. The peak was named by Dr. Harry Fielding Reid in 1891 after George Frederick Wright, American geologist and professor at Oberlin Theological Seminary who spent time in the Glacier Bay area in 1886. There is a second Mount Wright in Glacier Bay National Park, located approximately 43 miles west of this mountain, deep within the Fairweather range.
