Here behind strong earthworks, the Patriots set up a deadly ambush. Cannons and muskets are placed on a high sloping ridge above Moores Creek Bridge. The oncoming Loyalists never had a chance.
Today you see a historic reproduction of two cannons, a larger one, Mother Covington, and a smaller swivel gun, Mother Covington's Daughter. They sit today behind the strong Patriot earthworks.
