Located near an official Lewis and Clark campsite, Mondamin is a rural town with a strong agricultural tradition. With plenty of activities for the entire family, Mondamin is home to the historic Spooner-Holeton House. Built in 1870, the Spooner-Holeton House has served as a drug store, private residence, and library throughout its 150 year history. Today it is a museum furnished in an 1880s style. The annual Mondamin Heritage Day, held in June, features a parade and fun activities for adults and children alike. For the avid biker, the 29 mile Embrace the Hills annual bike ride starts in Mondamin!

Just outside of the city limits, there are several family friendly activities.  If fresh fruit sounds appealing, visit Small’s Fruit Farm’s 33-acre orchard, just 3 miles east of Mondamin. Since 1895, Small’s has been growing delicious fruit and serving up pies and cider. The 2nd weekend of October is the Small’s Fruit Farm Fall Festival, complete with music, pony rides, games, and more.

A few other attractions located near Mondamin include:

  • The Loess Hills Lavender Farm, the first lavender farm in Iowa;
  • The Loess Hills State Forest, east of Mondamin;
  • The Remington Boat Launch, an official Lewis and Clark site situated on the banks of the Missouri River perfect for hunting small game, bank fishing, and camping.
