Monarchs travel through the Texas Panhandle on their incredible journey from Canada to Mexico. The Monarch Butterfly Garden at Alibates has been certified as a Monarch Waystation by the North American Butterfly Association. Rangers and National Park Service volunteers created this garden to mitigate habitat loss due to development and agriculture.
To offset the loss of milkweeds and nectar sources, the staff created this special garden to help these magnificent butterflies and to also educate the public about monarch conservation. The Monarch Waystation consists of simple milkweeds and nectar sources to attract the butterflies on their journey.

Monarch populations do fluctuate every year and the numbers are on a rapid decline. By maintaining this Monarch Waystation, it will help assure the preservation of the species and the continuation of the monarch migration phenomenon. Come and take a tour of the garden and learn how you can help "Save the Monarchs."
