Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The museum is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the scientific, historical, and cultural heritage of the Mojave Desert. The facility offers more than 4,000 square feet of museum, including a Gift Shop and a Book Store that carries nearly 500 titles, including a dozen titles relating to the Old Spanish National Historic Trail, especially Harold Steiner’s “The Old Spanish Trail Across the Mojave Desert”.. 
 
The Museum houses a series of displays and exhibits that portray the history of the Mojave River Valley from early man through the arrival of Father Garces in 1776 on through pathfinders, pioneers, and emmigrants traveling along the Old Spanish Trail, as well as miners, railroads and the present space program. 
 
The archive of local area includes newspapers dates back to 1911 and the photo collection contains over 230,000 photos, 2,000 books, and large collection of maps including copies of 1855 Government Land Office maps showing the Old Spanish Trail.
