The Copper Country has always been a remote location. To attract workers companies routinely built houses for their workers. This saltbox style home, built by the neighboring Pewabic Mining Company around 1870, had many occupants over the years. One was the family of Joseph Martin, who lived here with his wife and nine children. They left soon after Joseph lost his life in a mining accident in 1921. The house has undergone extensive stabilization and preservation in recent years.
