The mine captain’s office is located on the western end of Calumet’s industrial core. It is a single-story structure made from poor-rock with brick accents above the windows and doors. The first floor is raised above a partially submerged basement and the attic space has been finished. Mine captains, often skilled immigrants from distant mining regions, oversaw the daily mining operations underground. They frequently wore white for identification, marking their status compared to the dirty work of mining.
