Hike along a short trail which used to be on the LX Ranch before it was Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Along the trail, there are plants, trees, grasses, and many hearty mesquite trees to wander through. The original barbed wire fence from 1883 can be seen along this trail.
Barbed wire fences were a new and modern invention in 1874. As you finish the short hike, take a break at the picnic table and view the mesquite tree overhead. On the ground, there may be mesquite beans dropped from the tree. This trail is .3 miles and a good area to enjoy the wide-open spaces of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area.
