Badlands buttes extend into the horizon with prairie grasses interspersed.
Badlands is an open-hike park so you do not need to stay on the trail -- just be careful!

Medicine Root Trail provides excellent vistas of the mixed-grass prairie and its inhabitants, like butterflies, birds, rodents, and snakes.

Parking - Auto, Trailhead

This generally rolling spur trail connects with the Castle Trail on the East near Old Northeast Road and on the West at the intersection of the Castle and Saddle Pass trails. Trail users are provided the opportunity to explore the mixed grass prairie while enjoying views of the Badlands in the distance. Watch for cactus.
