May Lundberg Antietam National Cemetery
May A. Lundberg is buried behind Indiana Section, grave #4469. May Lundberg is the only female veteran buried in Antietam National Cemetery. She was born in 1876 in Redwood City, California, the daughter of Swedish immigrants. During World War I, she served as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps working at the American Hospital of Paris and for Red Cross Hospital in Paris. In the 1920s and 30s, May settled in New York City and continued her career. Records show that she visited France at least eight times as well as 16 other countries throughout her lifetime including Egypt, Poland, and Norway.
