As a prominent abolitionist, Fiske wrote in newspapers, including The Fall River Monitor and The Liberator, speaking out against the injustice of slavery, and he was active in signing a petition against returning freedom seeker Anthony Burns to slavery. Fiske’s home itself, in Fall River, was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and many freedom seekers passed through the home on their journey to freedom.
