At the heart of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument lies the East Branch of the Penobscot River, which runs the length of the monument north to south. From native Penobscots to noted American visitors like Henry David Thoreau, this waterway has been an important corridor of travel for centuries.

Lunksoos Boat Launch is a small gravel boat launch near the historic site of Lunksoos Camps. It offers a put-in point for paddlers wishing to head upstream to the river's confluence with the Seboeis, or downstream to Whetstone Falls and the main stem of the Penobscot beyond.

The parking lot and vault toilet is located across the Seboeis Road. Unload your belongings by the boat ramp and park in the designated parking lot.
