Scenic View/Photo Spot
As you traverse these switchbacks, take a moment to turn and look at the view into the Chisos Basin. With your eyes, follow the paved road as it enters the Basin and you should be able to make out the features of the campground. Past the campground is a fantastic view through the Window into the desert beyond. The Window is framed by Amon Carter Peak on the left and Vernon Bailey Peak on the right. Amon Carter (1879-1955) played an influential role in the creation of Big Bend National Park. Vernon Bailey (1864-1942) was a naturalist employed by the Bureau of Biological Survey who conducted biological surveys in Big Bend around 1901.
