Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Scenic View/Photo Spot

Looking west (to your left) you can see the town of Los Alamos.  Today Los Alamos is the site of the Los Alamos National Laboratories (LANL).  The lab was established in 1943 under the Manhattan Project to develop the first atomic bomb.  From here you can see why this was an excellent choice for a secret city.  Look at the rugged landscape.  In the 1940’s this would have been an easier location than most to protect from prying eyes.  Even so, Los Alamos was home to at least a few spies.  For more information on this part of local history, be sure to visit the Manhattan Project National Historic Park in Los Alamos.
