Some plant species from the Clarno Assemblage were resilient enough and adapted to survive millions of years of climate fluctuations and volcanic eruptions. Netleaf Hackberry trees (Celtis reticulata) are examples of “living fossils”, because they’ve avoided extinction while remaining relatively unchanged for millions of years.
