As William Campbell and his Virginia Patriots headed to the planned meeting at Sycamore Shoals, they followed the Doe River along this path. Apx. 200 men were riding with William Campbell, and 200 more were close behind sent by Arthur Campbell as reinforcements.
The trail is labeled on maps as "Linear Park Trail" but known locally as the "Linear Path." It is a 6 mile paved trail beginning at Eastside Elementary School and ending at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area. Along the trail are picnic tables, benches, and bike racks.
