This 8.5-acre urban nature center features a remarkable diversity of ecosystems, including upland forest, meadows, a freshwater pond, and more. The Preserve functions as a “watershed in miniature,” where visitors see how land-use influences water quality and the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

Operated by the Sultana Education Foundation, the Preserve showcases the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Bay region in a compact, easy-to-navigate landscape. Look for turtles sunning on logs, spot seasonal waterfowl and raptors, or pause at interpretive signs that tell the story of watershed ecology and conservation.

The site also hosts environmental literacy programs for PreK–12 students, educators, and community members. Visitors can join hands-on activities like dip netting, water testing, and native species planting. Explore the boardwalk, observe wetland wildlife, and take part in seasonal public programs at the nearby Harwood Nature Center for deeper engagement with the natural world.

As a Chesapeake Gateways Network Site, the Preserve connects visitors to the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Bay. Whether you're a first-time visitor or returning explorer, the Lawrence Wetlands Preserve offers a peaceful, educational escape in the heart of Chestertown. Visit their website to learn more.
