Lake Lewis

Color photograph of a group of 4 people on a hiking trail ascending a mountain.
Lake Lewis was a glacial lake which once covered almost all of the Tri-Cities.

This marks the site of Lake Lewis. During one of the Ice Age floods, water backed up into the area that is now the Tri-Cities, forming a massive temporary lake that rose to about 1200 feet above sea level for a period of weeks. This lake helped shape the modern landscape and only the part of Candy Mountain above this elevation remained above water.
