The HMS St. Lawrence was built at this dockyard, the only base of operations for the British Royal Navy on Lake Ontario. The Americans at Sackets Harbor and the British at this dockyard strove to build the largest warships to use in the Battle of 1812. Later to become dubbed “the shipbuilders war” On May 15th 1813 British Commodore James Yeo took control over operations for the Great Lakes Region, and he had plans to attack Sackets Harbor, but the plans never came to fruition.
