Kautz Creek Nature Trail: Welcome Exhibit Panel
Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits
Title: Kautz Creek Nature Trail
Main Text
Along this short trail, discover clues to one of the most powerful geologic forces that has shaped Mount Rainier. Mudflows have thundered down this valley, toppling trees, damaging bridges, and leaving behind thick layers of mud and debris. Stroll along this board walk to see the effects of these mudflows and to experience the recovery of this once dense forest.
Secondary Text
Geohazard Warning: Without warning, debris flows and glacial outburst floods can occur at any time, eroding stream banks and scouring everything in their path, including rocks and trees. If an earthquake occurs or you hear a prolonged rumbling, move quickly uphill, away from rivers and streams.
Exhibit Panel Description
A single photo of Mount Rainier fills the entire exhibit panel. Just a portion of the glaciated mountain peak is visible, rising above a row of tall conifer trees. A few fluffy clouds drift around the mountain. The main text is above the mountain, set against the mostly blue sky. In the lower left corner of the panel, the secondary "Geohazard Warning" text is highlighted in yellow font against a grey background.
Visit This Exhibit Panel
From the Kautz Creek parking lot, cross the road to the Kautz Creek Nature Trail. The welcome exhibit panel is to the right of the boardwark near the start of the trail. Kautz Creek, open year-round, is located three miles east of the Nisqually Entrance in the southwest corner of the park along the road to Longmire.
