Kanaʻana Hou is Kalaupapa settlement's current Protestant church. The Protestant church moved from building to building for years until the congregation decided to build a new church, Kanaʻana Hou. The church was erected in 1915 and named Kanaʻana Hou (New Canaan), meaning "The Church of the Promised Land." Around this time, the congregation also built a community social hall next door to the church and improved the landscaping.
The first Protestant church built on the peninsula was Siloama Church, built in 1876. The Siloama Church building still stands today on the eastern side of the peninsula.
