The John Shaw House was built in the 1720s, and is the oldest building on State Circle. John Shaw, Maryland's best known cabinet maker, occupied this home starting in 1784. Many pieces of Shaw's beautiful and valuable furniture are still in existence in museums and private collections; a few pieces are on display in the State House. A more modern addition on the back of the building faces Main Street.
