Quick Facts
Location:
133 Franklin Street, Quincy, MA
Significance:
The Hall is one of the ground-floor rooms in the John Adams Birthplace.
The Hall was one of the two original rooms on the ground floor of the John Adams Birthplace. Typically, houses like this one had two rooms, a Hall and a Parlor, on the ground floor with a central chimney and a staircase between the rooms. With the large open hearth, the Hall would have been the original kitchen and dining area of the house before the addition of the lean-to kitchen. There is no evidence to say how the family used room after the addition of the lean-to. The room where Susanna Boylston Adams gave birth to John Adams is likely the room on the second floor above the Hall.
