This home was built by Thomas S. Bocock and Henry F. Bocock in 1849. Thomas became the Speaker of the Confederate House of Representatives from 1862 to 1865, and Henry was the first County Clerk for Appomattox County serving from 1845 to 1860. During the Civil War the home was occupied by Lewis D. Isbell, who represented the county at the 1861 secession convention. Isbell also served as the Commonwealth Attorney for Appomattox County.
