Even now you can see reminders of Japan’s Pre-World War II air power scattered around Saipan’s present-day airport. The Japanese bomb storage building is surrounded by a 490 ft by 160 ft concrete and soil revetment. There are remnants of a gun emplacement on the soil covered roof making this the only remaining example of this type of building in Micronesia. As the Pacific War erupted on December 8, 1941, Japanese bombers took off from here to attack Guam, using ordnance from this bunker.
