As you take the hiking train north along Buck Island's western shore you will see several very large, old trees. These Tamarind trees are from Africa, and are likely well over 200 years old. It is believed that the seeds of these and of St Croix's baobab trees were brought with enslaved Africans beginning in the 1700s.
