Originally an officer's quarters, this room now preserves the foundations of an original fireplace uncovered during the archeological excavations in the 1970's. You will see exhibits showing the hearth as it was found and a map of the excavated areas of the fort. Fireplaces like this not only served as cooking and heating sources, but as "garbage cans" as well. Many of the artifacts housed in the fort's museum were originally "junk" that the soldiers threw in fireplaces like this one.
