Quick Facts
Location:
North of Newport, NE
Significance:
Public River Access
Designation:
Public Launch/Landing

Canoe/Kayak/Small Boat Launch, Parking - Auto

The Highway 137 landing is the last landing on the designated Niobrara National Scenic River. It is free to the public and paddlers can launch or land from this location. There is also a small parking area and space for staging equipment.

(Please Note: The Highway 137 landing was damaged in 2019 and is waiting for repair by the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Check our Alerts for updates on its status.)

The water level at this land varies by season. Sometimes there is sand at the bottom of the stairs and room to enter a vessel, but other times the water is higher and paddlers must enter a vessel from the stairs or the edge of the concrete skirt.

This landing is not used often and is less well maintained than those on the upper Niobrara River, but nonetheless, paddlers who seek to explore all that the Niobrara River has to offer in its more remote and untouched waters will find that this landing is usable.
